Fringe is created from intentionally long satin stitches. The top thread becomes the visible fringe; the bobbin thread holds those stitches from the back until you cut the designated fringe area.

Use polyester embroidery thread for the fringe

For most Artapli fringe designs, polyester embroidery thread is the most practical choice. It is durable, washable, colorfast, and easier to fluff than delicate rayon or silk. Use the thread weight specified by the design instructions; standard 40-weight embroidery polyester is the usual starting point.

What should be in the bobbin?

Use the bobbin thread recommended for your machine and project. A contrasting bobbin color can make the cutting line easier to see, but only when it will not show through the fabric. The bobbin thread is not the fluffy surface—the top thread is.

Should top thread and foam or fabric match?

For ordinary fringe, choose the visible top-thread color you want in the finished design. If the underlying fabric could show between threads, a related fabric and thread color gives the fullest appearance.

Do not change tension blindly

If the bobbin thread is difficult to see, do not immediately turn the bobbin-case screw. First confirm correct threading, needle, bobbin, stabilizer, and the design's intended fringe row. Change tension only according to your machine manual or dealer guidance, and test on scrap fabric.

Before cutting
