finished piece

Made to look soft in a tiny size

I started this one from the finished object, not the screen. I wanted a tiny Santa that could work as an earring, a charm, or a small ornament, and still read clearly once it was stitched out. The soft part matters here. The white fringe gives the beard and trim a fluffy look that plain satin stitches cannot fake, especially in these mini sizes.

The base is freestanding lace, stitched right on wash-away stabilizer with no fabric underneath. After stitching, you cut the bobbin threads on the loose satin sections from the back, then turn it over and fluff the fringe. That one step changes the whole piece.

I kept the size range simple at 1.5 inches, 2 inches, and 2.5 inches so you can choose between a very small pair for kids or a slightly bigger charm that shows more detail. It is an in-the-hoop project, so the process stays tidy, and the finish stays light instead of bulky. If you have stitched freestanding lace before, this will feel familiar. If you have not, the build is still straightforward because you hoop only the stabilizer and stitch the design directly onto it.

help before stitching
Is there a special trick I should know before I buy and stitch this out?

Yes. This Santa uses both freestanding lace and fringe, so the key step comes after stitching. You hoop only wash-away stabilizer, stitch the design on it, then turn the hoop over and cut the bobbin threads along the loose satin areas so the fringe can fluff up.

Can I assume this is 40 mm?

One included size is close to that. The set comes in 1.5 inch, 2 inch, and 2.5 inch sizes, and 1.5 inches is about 38 mm.

Is the EXP format included?

Yes, EXP is included. The full listed format set is PES, DST, EXP, VIP, HUS, XXX, JEF, and VP3.

Will this pattern work on a Brother Innovis 2500D?

Yes, if your Brother machine uses PES files, you can use the PES version from this set. PES is included with the download.
