The outline took the longest
The part that took me the longest was not the bear shape itself. It was the outside outline. With a patchwork fill like this, the inside has a lot going on already: trees, bows, snowflakes, and chevrons all sitting close together while the fabric shows through. I wanted Nathan to read as one soft teddy bear at first glance, not as a busy cluster of holiday pieces, so I kept adjusting the outer line until the whole shape felt calm again.
Small change, big difference. A teddy bear can look stiff very quickly if the head, paws, and feet do not balance with each other, especially once strong Christmas patterns start pulling your eye in different directions.
I spent the most time on the curve around the ears and the little spread of the legs. If those areas are too tight, the bear starts to look pinched. If they are too open, he loses that cuddly toy feeling. This final version keeps the patterned sections lively, but the silhouette still reads clearly on kids' clothes, baby gifts, and other holiday projects. That was the point I kept stitching toward.
