Materials

The Part 1 design is stitched onto non-woven water-soluble stabilizer. I recommend using Vilene water-soluble wash-away stabilizer. It has a fabric-like texture, not a film.

The Part 2 design is stitched directly onto your project. Choose a stabilizer suitable for your fabric. I personally use a medium-weight non-woven tear-away stabilizer for this design. Tear-away works great for this project, but you may also use adhesive stabilizer or any stabilizer you prefer, depending on your experience and what works best with your fabric and embroidery machine.

Embroidering Part1

Step 1. Hoop only the water-soluble stabilizer.
For the best results, I recommend hooping two layers of stabilizer.

Step 2. Stitch the design directly onto the water-soluble stabilizer.

The design finishes with a rectangle-shaped placement stitch.

Step 3. Unhoop your project, but do NOT rinse away the stabilizer yet.

Embroidering Part2

Step 4. Hoop your item where you want the design to go.

Step 4. Stitch the design and placement stitch.

Step 5. Take the stitched Part1 and place it inside the placement shape, aligning the rectangles evenly with each other.

Secure the layers with tape or pins.

Step 6. Complete stitching the design.

Step 7. Unhoop your project.

Step 8. Turn the hoop over to see the back side of the project. Carefully remove the rectangle placement stitches.

Step 9. Carefully trim away the excess water-soluble stabilizer, then rinse the remaining stabilizer out with water.

Allow the design to dry completely.

Final Result

The freestanding lace details add beautiful movement and a realistic layered look, making it a true eye-catcher for shirts, tote bags, pillows, and more.
