The hat shape took the longest
The part that took me the longest was getting the little cowboy hat to read clearly at earring size. At about 1.6 inches tall, every small curve matters, and if the hat brim gets too heavy it can crowd the ghost face. I kept working that balance so the shape still looks like a ghost first, with the western hat sitting naturally on top instead of turning into one solid stitched block.
This is a freestanding lace design, so I built it for wash-away stabilizer and a clean in-the-hoop finish. That matters on earrings. They need to stay light, hold their shape after rinsing, and still look neat close up when someone is actually wearing them.
I like this one for Halloween gifts because it stitches fast and feels easy to finish. Hoop the non-woven water-soluble stabilizer by itself, stitch the design directly on it, then unhoop, trim the extra stabilizer, rinse, and let the pair dry flat. The result is a small charm-style earring design that still has enough detail to feel playful, especially for girls, gift sets, and western Halloween outfits.
