project planning

If this turkey is going on a shirt

If you are getting a Thanksgiving shirt ready and want something soft and playful instead of flat fill stitching, this turkey was made for that kind of job. I digitized it with loose satin stitches that turn into fringe after stitching, so the body fluffs up and looks full. There is also a special seam under the fringe to hold it in place through the wash, which matters when the shirt is going to be worn, washed, and worn again.

The stitching itself is simple. You embroider the design, turn the hoop over, cut the bobbin thread along the large satin stitches on the back, then turn it over again and fluff the fringe around.

I included 3.5 inch, 4 inch, and 4.5 inch sizes, so you can choose what fits your project instead of forcing one size onto every blank. One buyer used it for her son's first Thanksgiving shirt, and another turned it into a wall hanging, which is exactly how I think about this kind of design. It can be sweet on clothing, but it also has enough texture to hold its own on decor.

real stitcher notes
“I just love doing these fringed designs. I am getting better at finding the bobbin thread now. I decided to make this into a wall hanging. Easy to stitch out. And definitely a cute design!”

This is so cute! It’s a little hard on arthritic hands—no fault of the design—just be aware. I plan to make more anyway. :-)

answers before checkout
Do you have a smaller version for a small child?

Yes. This design includes a smaller version in the 4x4 size folder, and the set includes 3.5 inch, 4 inch, and 4.5 inch sizes.

Can you send the files again?

If you need your files again, I can provide the download link again. This design is an instant digital download.

What kind of bobbin thread should I use for this design?

I would not use water-soluble bobbin thread for this one. The fringe effect depends on those long satin stitches and the cutting step on the back, so a regular bobbin thread is the safer choice.
