lace test notes

What I had to test before this tiny tree worked

Small freestanding lace has very little room for weak spots, so this tree had to be redrawn with that in mind. The shape needed to read as a Christmas tree first, but it also had to stay open and light enough to look like lace instead of a solid little patch. I worked around the frame shape carefully because a pretty outline is not enough here. It has to rinse clean, hold its edges, and still look neat at just about 1.7 inches tall.

The hardest part was balance. A lace earring design this small can get too stiff fast, or too loose and floppy after rinsing.

I also tested the project around the way people actually use it. Some stitchers want earrings, some want a charm, and some want a quick gift tag, so the tree had to look finished on its own without depending on fabric behind it. That is why this design is meant to stitch directly on non-woven water-soluble stabilizer. After stitching, you unhoop it, trim the excess, rinse away the stabilizer, and let it dry flat. That simple process is part of what makes this kind of project satisfying to make.

clear project answers
Is there any way to shrink it down a little more?

Yes, I can make it smaller. The listed finished height is about 1.7 inches, so if you need a reduced version, contact me before stitching.

Do you have a color chart that tells me which thread colors to use?

Yes. JPG thread color charts are included with the download files, so you have a guide for the thread changes.

If I order this, will I receive an iron-on embroidery patch?

No. This is a digital machine embroidery file, not a finished iron-on item. You stitch it yourself on water-soluble stabilizer to make the lace piece.

Can I post your name and Etsy site with this picture?

Yes, that is fine with me. I appreciate being credited when you share your finished stitching.
