The bow shape had to stay crisp
The part that took me the longest was getting the bow to hold its shape and still look soft once it came off the hoop. A dimensional felt bow can go flat fast if the stitch path is too heavy, and it can look loose if the sections are too light. I kept adjusting that balance so the finished piece would keep the Santa bow look instead of turning into a floppy strip of felt.
I also had to think about where this bow would end up. Some stitchers will turn it into an ornament. Some will put it on a hair clip. Some will use it for kids' things. That meant the design needed to read clearly at the smaller finished sizes, about 2 inches and 2.5 inches, and still look right in the larger hoop files too. Small details matter here.
This is a simple in-the-hoop project, and I included the PDF directions because a 3D felt piece always goes better when you can see the order before you start. The files come in separate sizes for 4x4, 5x7, and 6x10 hoops, with ready sizes about 2, 2.5, 3, and 3.5 inches. I also included JPG thread color charts so you can set up quickly at the machine.
