The beard is the part I solved
There are plenty of Santa faces out there, but this one is built around the beard instead of treating it like a flat fill area. I digitized the beard with loose satin stitches that get opened from the back after stitching, so you can fluff it up and give Santa that soft, full look. I also put a special seam under the fringe to hold it in place through the wash. That matters.
The rest of the design stays simple so the beard can do the work. You stitch the design like usual, then turn the hoop over, cut the bobbin thread along the large satin stitches, turn it back, and brush the fringe around with your fingers. The plaid hat and fur trim give it color and shape without making the face feel busy, which helps this Santa read clearly even at a glance on a towel, shirt, or gift.
I made this in big sizes only: 5, 5.5, and 6 inches. That gives the fringe room to open up well, and it also makes the hat plaid and fur details easier to see once the design is stitched out.
