Getting small cross stitch letters to read cleanly
This font started with a simple goal that turned out to be picky in the hoop. I wanted the letters to keep that counted-cross-stitch feel, but I also needed the shadow to stay readable at very small heights. On a screen, a tiny shaded cross looks clear. In thread, it can turn muddy fast. So I kept redrawing the balance between the main letter and the shadow until the shape still looked like a letter first, not a textured block.
The smallest size mattered most. At 0.6 inch, every little point has to earn its place.
I also tested how far I could carry the set without losing the reason to use it. This one includes uppercase, lowercase, and numbers, so the letters had to sit together as a real working alphabet instead of a few pretty samples. A narrow lowercase needed to look right beside a wider capital. Numbers had to match the same style and weight. That is the part I spend the most time on with fonts like this, because one weak character can spoil a whole name.
I kept the size range small on purpose, from 0.6 inch up to 1.2 inches, because this style is nicest when it stays neat and compact. If you like using BX in your lettering software, I included that here too, along with the machine file formats and JPG thread charts. It is a practical little font for monograms, names, and short words where you want a cross stitch look without filling a big space.
