The part I kept testing
The beard was the part that took me the longest to settle. I wanted it to fluff up well after stitching, but I also wanted it to stay put after washing. That balance matters in a design like this, because the beard is the whole look. I added a special seam under the fringe so the loose satin stitches can be cut and fluffed without the beard falling apart later.
The stitching itself is simple. You run the design, turn the hoop over, cut the bobbin thread behind the loose satin stitches, then turn it back and brush the fringe around with your fingers.
I like this one for shirts and baby things for little boys, especially if you want something playful that still stitches in a reasonable size. The pirate hat with crossed bones gives it a clear theme, and the fluffy beard does the work of making it feel different from a flat fill design. I included a PDF with the steps, because this kind of texture is easy once you see the order.
