I had to test the hair until it stayed put
This cow only works if the shaggy hair looks full after you cut it, but still stays attached through stitching and washing. That was the part I had to test the most. I built the long satin areas to be cut from the back after the design finishes, then added a special seam underneath to hold that fringe in place. Without that seam, the fluffy look would not be worth much.
I also had to redraw the hair shape so the cow still looked like a Highland cow before and after fluffing. Fringe changes the outline. A line that looks right on screen can puff out too far once the threads are released.
The finished steps are simple at the machine, which mattered to me because this kind of texture can sound harder than it is. You stitch the design, turn the hoop over, cut the bobbin thread along the large satin stitches, then turn it back and fluff the hair around. I included a short video tutorial for that part because seeing the back of the hoop makes the process easier to follow the first time.
