Getting the dress light enough
The part I had to work the hardest on here was the dress. I wanted that lace effect look to stay light so the fabric underneath could show through, but I also needed the shape to read clearly as a dress and not turn into a busy patch of stitches. That balance matters on a small Halloween design, especially one meant for baby and kids items where the ghost needs to stay sweet instead of heavy.
The 4 inch version needed extra care because I split it into 2 parts to fit a 4x4 hoop well.
I also had to test how the bow, ghost shape, and dress worked together at each size. A light stitch area can look beautiful, but only if the open spaces feel intentional and the outline still holds the whole design together. I kept redrawing until the dress looked airy and the ghost still had a clean, finished shape at 5, 5.5, and 6 inches too.
This is the kind of design where fabric choice changes the finished look in a very visible way. Since the dress is stitched lightly, your background fabric becomes part of the design instead of hiding behind it. One customer used glitter HTV under the ghost for extra pop, and that makes sense here because the open stitched dress gives you room to play with what shows through.
