tiny eagle twist

A small eagle with real texture

A lot of tiny earring designs rely on shape alone. This one gets its look from texture. I combined freestanding lace with fringe, so the bald eagle does not stitch out flat and stiff like a small filled design often does. After stitching, you cut the bobbin thread along the loose satin areas on the back, then turn it over and fluff the fringe. That soft edge changes the whole piece.

It is also small on purpose. The finished design is about 1.5 inches, which works for earrings and also for a little charm if that is how you want to use it.

I made this to stitch on non-woven water-soluble stabilizer, not on fabric. You hoop the stabilizer by itself, stitch the design directly on it, trim the excess, rinse away the remaining stabilizer, and let it dry completely. The result is a freestanding piece with lace structure and a fluffy finish around the stitched shape, which gives this eagle a different feel from the usual tiny bird file.
