A soft pumpkin that still holds up
A fall pumpkin can look flat once it is stitched on a towel or kitchen project, and that is the problem I wanted to solve here. I made this as an in-the-hoop fringe design, so you get that fluffy chenille look without having to sew anything by hand afterward. The pumpkin keeps its shape, but the surface has more life. That matters on seasonal stitching where you want the design to read quickly from across the room.
The fringe is easy to make. You stitch the design, turn the hoop over, cut the bobbin thread under the large satin stitches, then turn it back and fluff the cut stitches around.
I also know fringe designs can make stitchers wonder how they will hold up after washing, especially on farm kitchen towels and other things that get used instead of just displayed. This one is made to be 100 percent safe to wash, and the cut threads are held in place with a tack-down stitch so the fringe stays where it belongs. If you have never tried this style before, the process is simple and the finish gives you a fuller pumpkin than a plain stitched fill would.
