Stitching
Hoop only tear-away stabilizer. Lay stocking fabric inside the shape.

Lay the fabric so the bottom part is exactly inside the hoop. The rest of the fabric should extend outside the hoop at the top for later steps.
It is helpful to use tape to keep the fabric flat while stitching.

Embroider the stocking outline.

Depending on the purchased design, stitch the decoration and add a monogram if desired.

Making the Cuff
Place the cuff piece with the cut edge along the upper stocking edge, right side down, covering the seam allowance (approx. 1/3 inch).
Use tape if needed to keep the fabric flat while stitching.

Stitch the straight seam to tack down the cuff.

Turn the cuff down to the right side and tack it down.

Trim the bottom edge of the cuff and

finish with a satin stitch

Tape the hanging ribbon in place. Optional length: double-folded 3 inches.

Opening to Turn the Stocking
Take the long fabric side that remains outside the hoop and cover the stocking.

The fabric piece may be longer than needed. Mark a line 2/3 to 1 inch above the stocking bottom, as shown in the photo below

Trim along the marked line.

This opening will be used to turn the stocking right side out and will be hidden inside.

Open the stocking again to place the second fabric piece.

Take the second piece of fabric and fold it in half.

Lay the folded edge along the upper part of the stocking.

Stitch the tack-down seam. (Unfortunately, I don’t have the exact photo; below is a photo as an example from my paw-stocking project)

Take the long fabric side again from outside the hoop and cover the stocking.
Complete the stitching.

Unhoop and cut out the shape, leaving approximately 1/3 inch seam allowance.

Clip into the seam allowances along the curves, cutting as close to the seam as possible.
Be careful not to cut the seam.

Make a small cut under the cuff into the corner as well.

Turn the stocking right side out in two steps:
1. First through the lower opening (this will remain hidden).

2. Then through the upper part of the stocking to turn it completely right side out.

You are done!

Kids will be excited to receive these cute Christmas stockings!
