Artapli Studio Help

I can't find the instructions for my fringe, appliqué or in-the-hoop design

Short answer: in your Library, open the design and press Download. The panel Complete package and instructions lists the instructions as their own file, Instructions, a PDF that is ready to download. Because it is a separate file, a download of one machine format (for example only PES) does not include it.

If you see no Instructions file there, message us with the design name and we will send you the steps.

Steps

1. Open the design's downloads

In My Library, find the design and click the pink Download button on its card to open its details. Then press Download under the picture. You can also press Complete embroidery package under Your files on the Specifications tab; its hint reads "Open package downloads, choose a machine format, or download instructions."

2. Download the instructions

The panel Complete package and instructions lists each file separately. Instructions shows Ready to download. Download it and open it with any PDF viewer on your computer, tablet or phone.

Download complete package at the top gives you everything in one go. If you pick a single machine format with Choose a machine format, you get only the stitch files for that format, so download Instructions separately.

What the steps usually look like

Every design is different, so the PDF for your design comes first. These are the common patterns.

Appliqué

  1. Placement line: a single running line shows where the fabric goes.
  2. Lay the appliqué fabric over the line, covering it fully.
  3. Tack-down: a second line (often a zigzag) holds the fabric in place.
  4. Trim: take the hoop off the machine without unhooping the fabric, and cut the appliqué fabric close to the tack-down line.
  5. Cover stitch: the final satin or decorative edge covers the raw edge.

Your machine stops between these steps because each one is a separate color in the file. That is how you know it is time to place or trim.

In-the-hoop (ITH) projects such as keychains, bag tags or ornaments are made entirely in the hoop. They usually start with a placement line on stabilizer, then pieces are added and tacked down in order, often with a back piece taped under the hoop for the last steps. Then you cut the project out around the final outline. The order and the number of pieces matter, so follow the PDF step by step.

Fringe is stitched as loops. After the whole design is done, cut the loops along the middle (or on one side, as the instructions say), and brush or fluff them up. Do not cut before the stitching is finished.

If something looks wrong

  • No Instructions file under Your files: this design does not have a separate instructions file in your Library yet. Message us with the design name and we will send the steps.
  • I downloaded only PES / DST and there is no PDF: single-format downloads contain stitch files only. Download Instructions separately or use Download complete package.
  • The PDF will not open: save it first, then open it with a PDF viewer, not with your embroidery software.
  • My machine did not stop between appliqué steps: some machines skip stops between two blocks of the same thread color. Check your manual for color-change stops, or stop the machine yourself at the placement and tack-down lines.

Questions people ask

I don't see the instructions with pictures mentioned for the fringe.

Open the design in your Library, press Download, and look for Instructions in Complete package and instructions. It is a separate PDF. If it is not there, message us with the design name.

Should there be information on how to assemble it?

In-the-hoop and appliqué designs that have assembly steps come with an Instructions PDF in the same place. Single-format downloads (only PES, only DST…) do not include it; download it separately.

I downloaded the ZIP for my machine format, but there is no PDF inside.

A single-format download contains the stitch files only. Use Instructions or Download complete package.

When do I cut the fringe loops?

After the whole design has finished stitching. Cut where your instructions say, usually through the middle of the loops, then brush them up.

When do I trim the appliqué fabric?

After the tack-down line, before the final satin edge. Take the hoop off the machine but keep the fabric hooped, trim close to the line, then put the hoop back and continue.

Why does my machine stop in the middle of the design?

Appliqué and ITH steps are separate colors in the file, so the machine stops to let you place or trim fabric.
