How to Use Alphabet Fonts with Your Bernina Machine

Hi there! Thank you so much for reaching out — I’m happy to walk you through how to use your purchased fonts with your Bernina embroidery machine. Most modern Bernina machines are fully compatible with EXP format, which is included in every download.

Step 1: Unzip the Folder

Before using your files, you’ll need to unzip the folder.

For Windows:

  • Right-click the ZIP folder and select “Extract All…”
  • Choose a location you’ll remember (like your Desktop or Documents)

For Mac:

  • Simply double-click the ZIP file and it will automatically unzip into the same folder

Option 2: Manual Method (Direct on Machine)

Bernina machines support EXP files directly. Here’s how to use them:

  1. Open the unzipped folder and locate the files in EXP format
  2. Copy the individual letters you want to a USB flash drive
  3. Insert the USB into your machine
  4. Use your machine’s ADD or MERGE function to arrange the letters and create your text

Option 3: Use BX Fonts with Embrilliance Express

For easier typing and layout, you can use the included BX font files with the free Embrilliance Express software.

After arranging your text, you can export it as EXP format for your Bernina machine.
