How To Make

Crown bow holder Felt project

Crown Bow Holder - Felt Project

A finished felt crown bow holder with pink ribbons, decorated with various hair bows.

Important Note

You may need to pause the machine and remove the hoop during this project. However, please do not unhoop your project! The backing is taped behind the hoop.

Stitching Instructions

Hoop only the tear-away stabilizer and attach the hoop to your machine.

Tear-away stabilizer secured in an embroidery hoop.

Embroider the first color step, which is the placement outline, directly onto the stabilizer.

Stop the machine, but do not unhoop your project. Lay a piece of felt right inside the stitched shape.

A piece of felt placed over the stitched outline on the stabilizer.

It is helpful to use tape to ensure the felt stays flat while stitching.

Optional: Adding a Monogram

At this moment, it is possible to add a monogram to your crown. You will need embroidery software to merge the design files, or you can try the following method directly on your embroidery machine if it supports a MERGE function:

  1. Load the crown design onto your machine.
  2. Using the "MERGE" or "ADD" function, load the letters of the name one by one to compose it. You will need to use a font file that you have purchased or that is pre-installed on your machine, as no font is included with this design. If you have problems with this step, please feel free to ask for assistance.
  3. Stitch the design until the felt tack-down seam is complete, then stop the machine. Skip forward through the remaining steps of the crown design until you reach the steps for your custom name.
  4. Embroider the name and stop the machine.
  5. Navigate back to the step immediately after the felt tack-down stitch and continue with the rest of the crown design.

Final Assembly

Take the hoop out of the machine, but do not unhoop your project.

Turn the hoop over to see the back side of the project.

Tape the satin ribbons in place. The lengths of the ribbons are optional.

Next, attach the backing felt (lining) behind the hoop, covering the ribbons and the stitched area.

Please ensure there is plenty of excess fabric around the perimeter. I am securing the lining with tape.

Backing felt taped securely in place.

Return the hoop to the machine and sew the final outline seam, which will tack down the front felt, ribbons, and backing felt together.

Unhoop the project and carefully cut out the crown shape. Be careful not to cut the satin ribbons!
