Envelope to Santa simply ITH Felt project
"Envelope to Santa" - Simple ITH Felt Project
Important Note
You may need to pause the machine and take the hoop out during this project, but please do not unhoop your work! The backing is taped behind the hoop.
Required Files and Materials
Project Files
You will need two files for this project:
-
Print File: The project folder includes a printable PDF pattern for the envelope flap. Print it at 100% scale. The piece should measure 7.5 inches wide along the longer side; the height is approximately 3.5 inches.
-
Envelope File: This is the in-the-hoop embroidery design for a 5x7 hoop.
Fabric Requirements
- Two pieces of felt, each 7.5 x 5.5 inches.
- One piece of felt, 7.5 x 4 inches.
Stitching Instructions
Step 1: Embroider the Front
Hoop a piece of felt with a layer of tear-away stabilizer. Alternatively, you can hoop only the stabilizer and then lay one piece of felt inside the hoop. Attach the hoop to the machine.
Stitch the envelope outline (Color 1) and all the decorative elements (Colors 2-8).
Step 2: Attach the Envelope Flap
There is a programmed machine stop before Color 9. If your machine does not stop automatically, please pause it manually. Take the hoop out of the machine, but do not unhoop the project.
Turn the hoop over to see the back side.
Using the PDF pattern, cut the envelope flap piece from felt.
Attach the felt flap to the back of the hoop and tape it securely in place, as shown below.
Tape it well!
Return the hoop to the machine and stitch Color 9 to tack down the envelope flap piece.
Step 3: Attach the Backing
Take the hoop out of the machine again, but do not unhoop your project!
Turn the hoop over to the back side.
Place the final piece of felt (the envelope back) over the entire design area. Ensure there is plenty of excess fabric around the perimeter and secure it with tape or pins.
Return the hoop to the machine and sew the final seam (Color 10), which is the tack-down outline for the backing.
Step 4: Finishing
Unhoop the project and cut out the envelope shape along the final stitch line.
You may want to trim a slight curve on the top edge of the envelope opening to make it more comfortable to use.
