"Little Chef" Hot Pot Holder ITH Tutorial

A finished, embroidered 'Little Chef' hot pot holder.

Materials Needed

  • Two pieces of main fabric
  • Ribbon for the hanging loop
  • Tape
  • Scissors
  • Wadding (optional)
  • Tear-away stabilizer

Fabric Cutting Guide

  • For the 5x7 hoop: Two fabric pieces, each 6x6 inches.
  • For the 6x10 hoop: Two fabric pieces, each 9x9 inches.

Embroidering Instructions

Step 1: Stitch the Front

Hoop a tear-away stabilizer with one piece of your main fabric and a piece of wadding (if using).

Stitch the decorative elements and the main outline of the design.

Step 2: Attach the Hanging Loop

Attach a ribbon to create the hanging loop.

Taping a folded ribbon loop onto the project.

Tape a folded piece of ribbon where indicated by the placement stitching, as shown in the photo below.

The ribbon loop taped securely in place on the hot pot holder.

Step 3: Final Assembly

Before the last seam, place the second piece of fabric, with its wadding (optional), on top with right sides together.

Stitch the final outline seam (Color 2). It is recommended to select an outline thread color that is close to your fabric color.

Unhoop the project and cut out the shape.

Step 4: Finishing

Turn the hot pot holder right side out through the opening left in the seam. Then, sew the opening closed by hand or with a sewing machine.
