Easy In-The-Hoop – Curtain Holes

Curtain holes project

This project uses both sides of the hoop.

Important: You may need to pause the machine and remove the hoop, but do not unhoop your project. The backing should remain taped to the back of the hoop.

Materials Needed

  1. Curtains (mark the hole positions first)
  2. Decorative appliqué fabric

Attach the hoop to the machine with tear-away stabilizer only.

  1. Embroider the outline directly onto the stabilizer.
  2. Stop the machine, but do not unhoop.

Outline on stabilizer

Place the fabric with the right side facing inward, aligning it within the stitched outline.

Fabric inside outline

Use tape to help keep the fabric flat during stitching.

Fabric taped in place

Next, stitch the tack-down seam. Stop the machine, remove the hoop (but do not unhoop), and place the appliqué fabric inside the outline.

Tack down applique

Use tape to keep the appliqué fabric smooth and secure during stitching.

This project requires only one hooping.

Hoop back side

Flip the hoop over and attach the lining or facing to the back of the project.

Attach lining

Leave extra fabric around the edges. Tape or pin it outside the stitch area to keep it flat. Next, tack down both the appliqué and lining fabrics.

Tack down both fabrics

Trim the Appliqué Fabrics

  1. Trim the lining from the back of the hoop.
  2. Trim the facing from the front of the hoop.

Reattach the hoop to the machine and continue stitching.

Resume design

Finish with the satin stitch outline. When complete, remove the tape, unhoop the project, and carefully tear away the excess stabilizer.
