How To Make

BOOK COVER

Easy In-The-Hoop Felt Book Cover

A finished, embroidered felt book cover with a cute design.

Important Note

You may need to take the hoop out of the machine during this project, but please do not unhoop your work! The backing fabric is taped behind the hoop.

Stitching Instructions

  1. Step 1: Prepare the Hoop

Hoop a piece of felt fabric along with a layer of tear-away stabilizer. Attach the hoop to the machine.

Felt and tear-away stabilizer secured together in an embroidery hoop.

  2. Step 2: Stitch the Decoration

Stitch the main decorative embroidery design onto the felt.

  3. Step 3: Attach the First Lining Piece

Take the hoop out of the machine, but do not unhoop the project. The entire in-the-hoop project is completed in a single hooping.

Turn the hoop over to the back side.

Attach the first lining piece to the back of the hoop, covering the stitched area.

Ensure there is plenty of excess fabric around the perimeter. Secure the lining with tape or pins.

The lining fabric taped securely in place on the back of the hoop.

  4. Step 4: Stitch the First Outline

The first bean stitch outline will be sewn next. The photo below shows how it looks from the front.

  5. Step 5: Attach the Second Lining Piece

Again, take the hoop out of the machine, but do not unhoop it.

Embroidery hoop removed from the machine again.

    Turn the hoop around.

Attach the second lining piece to the back, positioning it next to the first piece.

Ensure there is plenty of excess fabric, and secure it with tape or pins.

The second lining piece taped securely in place.

For this step and the previous outline step, use a bobbin thread that matches your top thread. This will ensure the book cover looks great from every angle.

  6. Step 6: Final Stitch and Finishing

Finally, stitch the last bean stitch outline.

When the design has finished, remove the tape, unhoop the project, gently tear away the excess stabilizer, and cut out the book cover shape.
