How To Make

In-the-hoop Gingerbread

In-the-hoop Gingerbread

This 7-step guide details in-the-hoop gingerbread embroidery, completed in one hooping. Steps include hooping tear-away stabilizer, creating the appliqué position seam , placing wadding and bread fabric, stitching the fabric tack-down  , flipping the hoop to secure appliqué and lining for the lining tack down. After trimming, reattach for the final satin stitch. Optional decorationv can be added. Conclude by removing tape, unhooping, and tearing excess stabilizer.

Important: This project requires the use of both sides of the embroidery hoop. You may need to remove the hoop at times, but do not unhoop your project. The backing should remain taped behind the hoop.

Gingerbread Embroidery: A 7-Step Visual Guide

This document provides a visual guide to gingerbread embroidery, broken down into 7 easy-to-follow steps. An image of the finished embroidery is included below.

Hoop two layers of tear-away stabilizer.

First, attach the hoop to the machine. Then, create seam NR1 directly on the stabilizer, also known as the appliqué position seam. Next, you will need foam or other wadding; I used felt fabric.

First, lay the wadding inside the shape. Then, place the bread fabric over the wadding. Stitch along the outline of the shape to create the fabric tack-down seam (also known as seam #2).

Before stitching, it's helpful to use tape or pins to keep the layers flat.

Gingerbread Decoration: Optional steps 3, 4, and 5 can be completed for decoration.

Project Completion: The entire in-the-hoop project is finished in a single hooping.

Flip the hoop over,

Flip the hoop over, then position the appliqué fabric directly behind the hoop, inside the shape. It's helpful to use tape or pins to keep the lining flat during stitching. I am using tape to secure the lining, as shown in the image below.

Next, you will attach the applique fabric and the lining tack down seam. This is step number 6.

Stop the machine. Do not unhoop. Trim the fabric around the shapes in front of the hoop and the lining.

Next, reattach the hoop to the machine. The satin stitch outline (NUMBER 7) will then be created. Position the image below in front of the hoop.

Behind the hoop, below the image.

Once the design is complete, carefully remove the tape, unhoop the fabric, and gently tear away any excess stabilizer.
