Freestanding Lace (FSL) Hibiscus Tutorial

A finished, assembled 3D freestanding lace hibiscus flower.

To begin, you will need the FSL Hibiscus embroidery design pieces all stitched out and ready for assembly.

Required Pieces

You should have the following two pieces:

  • One main flower piece
  • One center flower piece (stamen)

The two freestanding lace pieces required for the hibiscus, laid out flat.

Additional Supplies You Will Need

  • A hand-sewing needle and thread that matches the color of your lace
  • Scissors

Assembly Instructions

The main flower piece ready for hand-stitching.

In the center of the main flower piece, there is a shape resembling a five-pointed star. You will begin by stitching the sides of this star together to create the 3D flower shape.

Beginning to hand-stitch the sides of the center star together.

Continue stitching the sides together, one by one.

Continuing to stitch the sides of the star.

Stitch four of the five sides together.

Four sides of the star stitched together, forming a cup shape.

Before closing the final side, insert the center piece (stamen) through the opening.

Inserting the center stamen piece into the flower.

Finally, stitch the last side of the five-pointed star closed, securing the center piece in place.

Stitching the final side of the star to complete the 3D hibiscus flower.
