Conversion in Wilcom to preserve design quality

How to Preserve Design Quality in Wilcom Software

To make sure your embroidery designs stitch out exactly as intended, here is a quick guide to prevent Wilcom from automatically converting your files upon import. It's important to avoid letting the software automatically convert files, as that is often what causes designs to stitch out incorrectly.

To avoid this, please disable automatic adjustments each time you load a new file. This will ensure that you fully enjoy your purchased designs without any unintended modifications. You can also verify that the file is intact by loading it directly onto your embroidery machine, bypassing the software entirely. This will demonstrate that the software, not the file itself, is causing the quality loss. I am sorry for any confusion!

Understanding File Grades

Wilcom sometimes converts files into outline objects and removes important stitch settings. To prevent this, it’s essential to load the files as "stitch files" without automatic modifications.

Unfortunately, Wilcom has a tendency to auto-convert files, which results in a loss of quality. Embroidery files are classified into categories: native ‘design’ files (Grade A), imported outlines (Grade B), processed stitches (Grade C), or imported stitches (Grade D). To maintain the design’s original integrity, you should always import files as Grade D.

How to Import Correctly

The Wilcom manual doesn’t clearly explain this function, which can make it challenging to use. Here’s a straightforward approach: when importing a file, look at the bottom of the import window for the "Options" button. Click it to access options specific to the file format you’re importing.

For DST or PES files, you must uncheck two boxes to prevent the automatic conversion that reduces quality. Uncheck the boxes for “objects/outlines” and “auto connections.” This should preserve the design’s original quality as intended by the digitizer. I’m attaching a screenshot to help guide you.
