Math Multiplication Table Game Tutorial

A finished, embroidered felt multiplication table game.

Important Note

You may need to pause the machine and take the hoop out during this project, but please do not unhoop your work! The backing is taped behind the hoop.

File and Hooping Guide

For 5x7 Hoop (4 hoopings required)

Stitch the following designs:

  • File 1 (Face): multtableFace_5x7_part1

The embroidery design file for the first set of multiplication problems.

  • File 2 (Back): multtableBack_finish_5x7_part1

The embroidery design file for the first set of answers.

  • File 3 (Face): multtableFace_5x7_part2

The embroidery design file for the second set of multiplication problems.

  • File 4 (Back): multtableBack_finish_5x7_part2

The embroidery design file for the second set of answers.

For 6x10 Hoop (2 hoopings required)

Stitch the following two designs:

  • File 1 (Face): multtableFace_6x10

The embroidery design file for all the multiplication problems for the 6x10 hoop.

  • File 2 (Back): multtableBack_finish_6x10

The embroidery design file for all the answers for the 6x10 hoop.

Stitching Instructions

Step 1: Stitch the Front Panel (Problems)

Hoop a piece of felt fabric with a layer of tear-away stabilizer. Attach the hoop to the machine.

Embroider the first file (the "Face" file with the multiplication problems). Once it is complete, unhoop the project and tear away the stabilizer.

The completed front panel with all the multiplication problems stitched.

There is a dieline stitched around the multiplication table. This is required to align the backing correctly. I recommend stitching this dieline in the same color as your felt fabric.

Step 2: Stitch the Back Panel (Answers)

Load the second file (the "Back_finish" file). This file has squares that will be used to tack down the front panel.

Hoop another piece of felt fabric with a tear-away stabilizer. Attach the hoop to the machine and stitch the numbers (the answers) and the placement dieline.

Step 3: Assemble the Game

Take the hoop out of the machine, but do not unhoop your project.

The embroidery hoop removed from the machine.

Turn the hoop over to see the back side of the project.

Now, attach the finished front panel to the back of the hoop. Be very careful to check your alignment and ensure the answers on the back will be in the correct place corresponding to the multiplication problems on the front.

Placing the finished front panel onto the back of the hoop.

It is important to place the ready-stitched backing right inside the shape.

Use pins to help with alignment. Find the four corners of the dieline on both pieces and insert pins to match them up perfectly.

Pin or tape the backing securely in place.

Step 4: Final Stitch and Finishing

Return the hoop to the machine and stitch the last color, which will create the small boxes around each multiplication problem, securing the front and back panels together.

The final grid stitched through all layers to create the game tiles.

Unhoop the project and carefully cut out the individual game tiles along the stitched lines.
