Bee Ribbon Appliqué – In-The-Hoop Embroidery Instructions

A finished, adorable bee design created with yellow and black ribbon appliqué.

Step 1: Placement Outline

Hoop the fabric where the bee will be embroidered.

The first stitch will be the bee appliqué placement outline.

Step 2: Place the Ribbons

Next, choose the ribbon colors you want to use.

Fold and place the ribbons neatly inside the stitched shape to form the bee's stripes.

Yellow and black ribbons folded and arranged inside the bee placement outline.

Carefully tape the ribbons in place. For tricky fabrics, you can also use double-sided tape or a temporary spray adhesive if needed.

Safety Warning: Never hold the fabric with your hands while the machine is running—it’s dangerous.

The ribbons taped securely in place, ready for the tack-down stitch.

Step 3: Tack Down the Ribbons and Appliqué

Next, the ribbon tack-down seam will stitch. Stop the machine after this step, but do not unhoop the project.

The tack-down seam stitched over the ribbons to hold them in place.

Place the bee body appliqué fabric right inside the shape and fix it with tape or a pin.

The next step will be the appliqué fabric tack-down seam. After it stitches, stop the machine, do not unhoop, and carefully trim the excess appliqué fabric from around the seam.

The excess black appliqué fabric trimmed away from the bee's body.

Step 4: Final Satin Stitch

The final step is the satin stitch, which will neatly finish the edges of the bee's body.

That’s it—your adorable ribbon bee is complete!
