Unique bow hanger ribbon FSL
Freestanding Lace Bow Tutorial
Stitching the Bow
This design is stitched onto a non-woven, water-soluble stabilizer. I recommend using a fabric-style, wash-away stabilizer, such as Vilene, rather than a film-style one.
Quick Instructions
- Hoop the stabilizer only. I recommend using two layers for best results.
- Stitch the design directly onto the stabilizer.
- Unhoop the project and trim the excess stabilizer from around the design.
- Rinse the piece with water to dissolve the remaining stabilizer.
- Lay it flat and allow it to dry completely.
- Fold the bow as shown in the video tutorial and attach it to an ornament or other item.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Stitching
Hoop two layers of water-soluble stabilizer.
Stitch the bow design directly onto the stabilizer.
Step 2: Finishing
Once stitching is complete, unhoop the project and trim away the excess stabilizer from the edges of the bow.
Rinse the bow under water to dissolve any remaining stabilizer.
Lay the bow flat and let it dry completely before folding.
Step 3: Folding the Bow
Here is a short video tutorial demonstrating how to fold the bow:

Quick Folding Instructions
- Hold the piece in front of you so that you can see the hole in the center.
- Insert the narrow center ribbon of the bow into the opening on the left side.
- Gently pull the center ribbon through, allowing the sides of the bow to fold neatly in half.
Insert the center ribbon into the opening on the left side of the bow.
Gently pull the center ribbon, which will cause the sides of the bow to fold neatly in half.
